RESUMO

Porcine viral diarrhea is a common ailment in clinical settings, causing significant economic losses to the swine industry. Notable culprits behind porcine viral diarrhea encompass transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV), and porcine rotavirus-A (PoRVA). Co-infections involving the viruses are a common occurrence in clinical settings, thereby amplifying the complexities associated with differential diagnosis. As a consequence, it is therefore necessary to develop a method that can detect and differentiate all four porcine diarrhea viruses (TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA) with a high sensitivity and specificity. Presently, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the go-to method for pathogen detection. In comparison to conventional PCR, TaqMan real-time PCR offers heightened sensitivity, superior specificity, and enhanced accuracy. This study aimed to develop a quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR assay, utilizing TaqMan probes, for the distinctive detection of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA. The quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR assay, as devised in this study, exhibited the capacity to avoid the detection of unrelated pathogens and demonstrated commendable specificity, sensitivity, repeatability, and reproducibility, boasting a limit of detection (LOD) of 27 copies/µL. In a comparative analysis involving 5483 clinical samples, the results from the commercial RT-qPCR kit and the quadruplex RT-qPCR for TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA detection were entirely consistent. Following sample collection from October to March in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, we assessed the prevalence of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA in piglet diarrhea samples, revealing positive detection rates of 0.2% (11/5483), 8.82% (485/5483), 1.22% (67/5483), and 4.94% (271/5483), respectively. The co-infection rates of PEDV/PoRVA, PEDV/PDCoV, TGEV/PED/PoRVA, and PDCoV/PoRVA were 0.39%, 0.11%, 0.01%, and 0.03%, respectively, with no detection of other co-infections, as determined by the quadruplex real-time RT-qPCR. This research not only established a valuable tool for the simultaneous differentiation of TGEV, PEDV, PDCoV, and PoRVA in practical applications but also provided crucial insights into the prevalence of these viral pathogens causing diarrhea in Guangxi.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Total pelvic exenteration is the ultimate solution for rectovesicovaginal fistula caused by radiation therapy, yet total pelvic exenteration frequently causes intraoperative complications and postoperative complications. These complications are responsible for the dysfunction of lower extremities, impaired quality of life, and even the high long-term morbidity rate, thus multidisciplinary cooperation and early intervention for prevention of complications are necessary. Physical therapy was found to reduce the postoperative complications and promote rehabilitation, yet the effect on how physiotherapy prevents and treats complications after total pelvic exenteration and pelvic lymphadenectomy remains unclear. CASE PRESENTATION: A 50-year-old Chinese woman gradually developed perianal and pelvic floor pain and discomfort, right lower limb numbness, and involuntary vaginal discharge owing to recurrence and metastasis of cervical cancer more than half a year ago. Diagnosed as rectovesicovaginal fistula caused by radiation, she received total pelvic exenteration and subsequently developed severe lower limb edema, swelling pain, obturator nerve injury, and motor dysfunction. The patient was referred to a physiotherapist who performed rehabilitation evaluation and found edema in both lower extremities, right inguinal region pain (numeric pain rate scale 5/10), decreased temperature sensation and light touch in the medial thigh of the right lower limb, decreased right hip adductor muscle strength (manual muscle test 1/5) and right hip flexor muscle strength (manual muscle test 1/5), inability actively to adduct and flex the right hip with knee extension, low de Morton mobility Index score (0/100), and low Modified Barthel Index score (35/100). Routine physiotherapy was performed in 2 weeks, including therapeutic exercises, mechanical stimulation and electrical stimulation as well as manual therapy. The outcomes showed that physiotherapy significantly reduced lower limb pain and swelling, and improved hip range of motion, motor function, and activities of daily living, but still did not prevent thrombosis. CONCLUSION: Standardized physical therapy demonstrates the effect on postoperative complications after total pelvic exenteration and pelvic lymphadenectomy. This supports the necessity of multidisciplinary cooperation and early physiotherapy intervention. Further research is needed to determine the causes of thrombosis after standardized intervention, and more randomized controlled trials are needed to investigate the efficacy of physical therapy after total pelvic exenteration.

RESUMO

RECK plays an important role in the development of cancer. The current study focuses on exploring the clinical significance of RECK expression in cancer by mining public data and also evaluating the relationship between genetic polymorphisms of the RECK gene and cancer risk through meta-analysis. The results showed that RECK expression was not only associated with survival prognosis and immune infiltration in many types of cancers, but also with multiple drug sensitivity in pan-cancer. In addition, the RECK rs10814325 polymorphism was also associated with cancer risk under the homozygote comparison model (CC vs. TT: OR = 1.64, 95%CI = 1.03-2.61, p = 0.04) and the recessive genetic model [CC vs. (CT + TT): OR = 1.55, 95%CI = 1.27-1.89, p < 0.01]. In conclusion, these findings suggest that RECK expression levels may serve as a valuable indicator for assessing cancer prognosis in some cancers as well as drug sensitivity in pan-cancer, and its rs10814325 polymorphism may be used to assess cancer risk.

RESUMO

Background: Changes in the gut microbiota are closely related to insomnia, but the causal relationship between them is not yet clear. Objective: To clarify the relationship between the gut microbiota and insomnia and provide genetic evidence for them, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization study. Methods: We used a Mendelian randomized two-way validation method to discuss the causal relationship. First, we downloaded the data of 462,341 participants relating to insomnia, and the data of 18,340 participants relating to the gut microbiota from a genome-wide association study (GWAS). Then, we used two regression models, inverse-variance weighted (IVW) and MR-Egger regression, to evaluate the relationship between exposure factors and outcomes. Finally, we took a reverse MR analysis to assess the possibility of reverse causality. Results: The combined results show 19 gut microbiotas to have a causal relationship with insomnia (odds ratio (OR): 1.03; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01, 1.05; p=0.000 for class. Negativicutes; OR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.05; p=0.000 for order.Selenomonadales; OR: 1.01; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.02; p=0.003 for genus.RikenellaceaeRC9gutgroup). The results were consistent with sensitivity analyses for these bacterial traits. In reverse MR analysis, we found no statistical difference between insomnia and these gut microbiotas. Conclusion: This study can provide a new direction for the causal relationship between the gut microbiota (class.Negativicutes, order.Selenomonadales, genus.Lactococcus) and insomnia and the treatment or prevention strategies of insomnia.

RESUMO

Compared with conventional inorganic materials, organic electrodes are competitive candidates for secondary battery cathodes due to their resourcefulness, environmental friendliness, and cost-effectiveness. Much effort is devoted at the level of chemical structure, while ignoring the impact of molecular aggregation on battery behavior. Herein, this work designs a series of organic molecules with two electrochemically active phenothiazine groups linked by different lengths of alkyl chain to regulate molecular symmetry and crystallinity. The results emphasize the equally important role of molecular aggregation and chemical structure for battery performance. Among them, 2PTZ-C7 H14 |Li cell exhibits the most impressive cycle and rate performance. At the high rate of 50 C, it can still deliver a capacity of 63.4 mA h g-1 and 74.5% capacity retention after 10 000 cycles. Besides, the dropout voltage of 2PTZ-C9 H18 |Li cell is only 52 mV, which is among the lowest reported for lithium-organic batteries to the best of the author's knowledge.

RESUMO

While all-inorganic halide perovskites (iHPs) are promising photovoltaic materials, the associated water sensitivity of iHPs calls for stringent humidity control to reach satisfactory photovoltaic efficiencies. Herein, we report a moisture-insensitive perovskite formation route under ambient air for CsPbI2 Br-based iHPs via cesium cyclopropane acids (C3 ) as a compound introducer. With this approach, appreciably enhanced crystallization quality and moisture tolerance of CsPbI2 Br are attained. The improvements are attributed to the modified evaporation enthalpy of the volatile side product of DMA-acid initiated by Cs-acids. As such, the water-involving reaction is directed toward the DMA-acids, leaving the target CsPbI2 Br perovskites insensitive to ambient humidity. We highlight that by controlling the C3 concentration, the dependence of power conversion efficiency (PCE) in CsPbI2 Br devices on the humidity level during perovskite film formation becomes favorably weakened, with the PCEs remaining relatively high (>15 %) associated with improved device stability for RH levels changed from 25 % to 65 %. The champion solar cells yield an impressive PCE exceeding 17 %, showing small degradations (<10 %) for 2000 hours of shell storage and 300 hours of 85/85 (temperature/humidity) tests. The demonstrated C3 -based strategy provides an enabler for improving the long-sought moisture-stability of iHPs toward high photovoltaic device performance.

RESUMO

The introduction of high-valence state elements and highly active species is promisingly desired to design superior electrocatalysts for water electrolysis. Exploring scalable synthetic strategies is necessary for an in-depth understanding of the mechanism of improving electrocatalytic performance. But it remains challenging. Herein, several electrocatalysts through element doping are prepared. The obtained Mo-CoP3 -2@FeOOH samples show the overpotentials (OER) of 232 mV (alkaline seawater) and 262 mV (KOH electrolyte). As HER catalyst, it also presents an excellent electrocatalytic performance. The above electrocatalysts are utilized as anode/cathode to assemble devices for alkaline seawater/water electrolysis, which delivers a cell voltage of 1.58 V and durability of 350 h. Density functional theory calculations reveal that Mo ion doping and FeOOH significantly enhance the density states of the Fermi level and tune the position of the d-band center. It expedites the charge transfer and decreases the adsorption energy of intermediates. It demonstrates that transition-metal phosphides coated with highly active FeOOH offer an effective route to fabricate high-performance and durable catalysts for seawater/water electrolysis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: E-sports require athletes to have high-speed reflexes and excellent memory skills. Whereas a single session of aerobic exercise has been shown to improve cognitive function, this paper aims is to investigate the effects of acute moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on the cognitive function of e-sports players and its time-course characteristics. METHODS: Thirty-four E-athletes were divided into 2 groups according to a random number table method, and 2 trials in a quiet physical fitness gym. The duration of each trial was approximately 1 hour. In the first trial: exercise group (64-76% of maximum heart rate for 30 minutes power cycling) and control group, cognitive function was tested, and results were automatically recorded before, immediately after, and 30 minutes after exercise using the human benchmark website (https://humanbenchmark.com). The second trial crossed and swapped the interventions of the 2 groups, and the other test protocols were the same as the first. RESULTS: In both trials, the exercise intervention group showed significant improvements in speed accuracy (P < .001, Cohen's d = 1.406, 95% CI: 0.717-2.072; P = .005, Cohen's d = 0.782, 95% CI: 0.227-1.319), visual memory (P < .001, Cohen's d = 1.416, 95% CI: 0.725-2.086; P = .015, Cohen's d = 0.662, 95% CI: 0.127-1.181), and reaction time (P < .001, Cohen's d = 1.265, 95% CI: 0.610-1.898; P<.001, Cohen's d = 0.979, 95% CI: 0.386-1.551) immediately after exercise compared to baseline. The exercise intervention group also showed significant improvement in speed accuracy 30 minutes after exercise compared to baseline (P = .002 Cohen's d = 0.869, 95% CI: 0.298-1.421; P = .009, Cohen's d = 0.722, 95% CI: 0.177-1.249). In the first trial, the exercise intervention group showed significant improvements in visual memory and reaction time immediately after exercise compared to the control group (P = .013, Cohen's d = 0.904, 95% CI: 0.190-1.605; P = .027, Cohen's d = 0.796, 95% CI: 0.090-1.490). The exercise intervention group also showed significant improvement in reaction time 30 minutes after exercise compared to baseline (P = .009, Cohen's d = 0.719, 95% CI: 0.174-1.246). There was no effect of exercise on sequence memory or the chimp test in both trials (P > .05). Sequence effect analysis showed no influence on the order of the exercise intervention in both trials (P = .912; P = .111; P = .226). CONCLUSION: Acute moderate-intensity aerobic exercise significantly enhanced the speed accuracy, visual reaction time, and instantaneous memory of eSports players, and the effect could be extended up to 30 minutes after exercise.

RESUMO

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes severe diarrhea diseases in piglets, which has brought huge economic losses to the pig industry. As the dominant Lactobacillus species in the piglet intestine, the antiviral effect of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (L. reuteri) has been reported. Nine L. reuteri strains were isolated and identified from swine feces in this study. The CCK-8 assay examined the anti-PEDV potential of their cell-free supernatant (CFS). Among the nine L. reuteri isolates examined, LRC8 had a higher inhibition rate to PEDV than the other strains. Thus, the biological properties of the LRC8 strain, such as growth ability, acid production ability, acid and bile salt tolerance, and adhesion to IPEC-J2 cells, were evaluated. Besides, the anti-PEDV activity of LRC8-CFS (LRC8 metabolites, LRM) was assessed using plaque reduction assays, indirect immunofluorescence assays, RT-qPCR, and western blotting. The mRNA relative expression levels of inflammatory factors including IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-8, MCP1, and TNF-α were determined by RT-qPCR. The results showed that the LRC8 strain grew well, was resistant to acid, tolerated bile salts, and adhered strongly to IPEC-J2 cells. In addition, treatment with its CFS (LRM) dramatically downregulated the mRNA expression levels of inflammatory cytokines, and in the Vero cell culture, prophylactic, therapeutic, competitive, and direct-inhibitory actions were seen against PEDV. Finally, we explored the anti-PEDV effects of the LRC8 strain in piglets and found that the LRC8 strain effectively relieved the clinical symptoms and intestinal damage of piglets infected by PEDV. To sum up, we found a L. reuteri strain with an anti-PEDV effect.

RESUMO

Cystinosis is a lysosomal storage disease that is characterized by the accumulation of dipeptide cystine within the lumen. It is caused by mutations in the cystine exporter, cystinosin. Most of the clinically reported mutations are due to the loss of transporter function. In this study, we identified a rapidly degrading disease variant, referred to as cystinosin(7Δ). We demonstrated that this mutant is retained in the ER and degraded via the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway. Using genetic and chemical inhibition methods, we elucidated the roles of HRD1, p97, EDEMs, and the proteasome complex in cystinosin(7Δ) degradation pathway. Having understood the degradation mechanisms, we tested some chemical chaperones previously used for treating CFTR F508Δ and demonstrated that they could facilitate the folding and trafficking of cystinosin(7Δ). Strikingly, chemical chaperone treatment can reduce the lumenal cystine level by approximately 70%. We believe that our study conclusively establishes the connection between ERAD and cystinosis pathogenesis and demonstrates the possibility of using chemical chaperones to treat cystinosin(7Δ).

RESUMO

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome caused by bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms. Every year, approximately 31.5 million patients are diagnosed with sepsis, and approximately 5.3 million patients succumb to the disease. In this study, we identified biomarkers for diagnosing sepsis analyzed the relationships between genes and Immune cells that were differentially expressed in specimens from patients with sepsis compared to normal controls. Finally, We verified its effectiveness through animal experiments. Specifically, we analyzed datasets from four microarrays(GSE11755、GSE12624、GSE28750、GSE48080) that included 106 blood specimens from patients with sepsis and 69 normal human blood samples. SVM-RFE analysis and LASSO regression model were carried out to screen possible markers. The composition of 22 immune cell components in patients with sepsis were also determined using CIBERSORT. The expression level of the biomarkers in Sepsis was examined by the use of qRT-PCR and Western Blot (WB). We identified 50 differentially expressed genes between the cohorts, including 2 significantly upregulated and 48 significantly downregulated genes, and KEGG pathway analysis identified Salmonella infection, human T cell leukemia virus 1 infection, Epstein-Barr virus infection, hepatitis B, lysosome and other pathways that were significantly enriched in blood from patients with sepsis. Ultimately, we identified COMMD9, CSF3R, and NUB1 as genes that could potentially be used as biomarkers to predict sepsis, which we confirmed by ROC analysis. Further, we identified a correlation between the expression of these three genes and immune infiltrate composition. Immune cell infiltration analysis revealed that COMMD9 was correlated with T cells regulatory (Tregs), T cells follicular helper, T cells CD8, et al. CSF3R was correlated with T cells regulatory (Tregs), T cells follicular helper, T cells CD8, et al. NUB1 was correlated with T cells regulatory (Tregs), T cells gamma delta, T cells follicular helper, et al. Taken together, our findings identify potential new diagnostic markers for sepsis that shed light on novel mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and, therefore, may offer opportunities for therapeutic intervention.

RESUMO

Fructus gardeniae (FG) is a traditional Chinese medicine and health food for thousands of years of application throughout Chinese history and is still widely used in clinical Chinese medicine. FG has a beneficial impact on anxiety, depression, insomnia, and psychiatric disorders; however, its mechanism of action requires further investigation. This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of FG on sleep deprivation (SD)-induced anxiety-like behavior in rats. A model of SD-induced anxiety-like behavior in rats was established by intraperitoneal injection of p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA). This was accompanied by neuroinflammation and metabolic abnormalities in the hippocampus and disturbance of intestinal microbiota. However reduced SD-induced anxiety-like behavior and decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-1ß were observed in the hippocampus of rats after 7 days of FG intervention. In addition, metabolomic analysis demonstrated that FG was able to modulate levels of phosphatidylserine 18, Phosphatidylinositol 18, sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, deoxyguanylic acid, xylose, betaine and other metabolites in the hippocampus. The main metabolic pathways of hippocampal metabolites after FG intervention involve carbon metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate, and glycerophospholipid metabolism. 16S rRNA sequencing illustrated that FG ameliorated the dysbiosis of gut microbiota in anxious rats, mainly increased the abundance of Muribaculaceae and Lactobacillus, and decreased the abundance of Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group. In addition, the correlation analysis demonstrated that there was a close relationship between hippocampal metabolites and intestinal microbiota. In conclusion, FG improved the anxiety behavior and inhibited of neuroinflammation in sleep-deprived rats, and the mechanism may be related to the FG regulation of hippocampal metabolites and intestinal microflora composition.

RESUMO

Anthropogenic 129I, as a long-lived fission product and volatile radionuclide, can be used to investigate dispersion of air masses and the deposition of atmospheric pollution. Surface soil and soil core samples were collected from Northern Xinjiang and analyzed for 127I and 129I. The results show that 129I/127I atomic ratios in surface soil are inhomogeneous with a range of (2.07-106) × 10-9, and the maximum values in each soil core occurred at surface-subsurface layers (0-15 cm) at undisturbed sites. The dominant source of 129I in Northern Xinjiang is European nuclear fuel reprocessing plant (NFRP) releases, accounting for at least 70% of the total inventory; less than 20% of 129I originates from the global fallout of atmospheric nuclear weapons tests; less than 10% comes from the regional deposition of nuclear weapons tests at the Semipalatinsk site; and the regional deposition from the nuclear weapons tests at the Lop Nor site is insignificant. The European NFRP-derived 129I was transported to Northern Xinjiang via long-distance atmospheric dispersion with the westerlies through Northern Eurasia. The distribution of 129I in the surface soil in Northern Xinjiang is mainly controlled by topography, wind fields, land utilization, and vegetation coverage.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional nanomaterials hold great promise as electrode materials for the construction of excellent electrochemical energy storage and transformation apparatuses. In the study, metallic layered cobalt sulfide was, firstly, applied to the area of energy storage as a supercapacitor electrode. By a facile and scalable method for cathodic electrochemical exfoliation, metallic layered cobalt sulfide bulk can be exfoliated into high-quality and few-layered nanosheets with size distributions in the micrometer scale range and thickness in the order of several nanometers. With a two-dimensional thin sheet structure of metallic cobalt sulfide nanosheets, not only was a larger active surface area created, but also, the insertion/extraction of ions in the procedure of charge and discharge were enhanced. The exfoliated cobalt sulfide was applied as a supercapacitor electrode with obvious improvement compared with the original sample, and the specific capacitance increased from 307 F∙g-1 to 450 F∙g-1 at the current density of 1 A∙g-1. The capacitance retention rate of exfoliated cobalt sulfide enlarged to 84.7% from the original 81.9% of unexfoliated samples while the current density multiplied by 5 times. Moreover, a button-type asymmetric supercapacitor assembled using exfoliated cobalt sulfide as the positive electrode exhibits a maximum specific energy of 9.4 Wh∙kg-1 at the specific power of 1520 W∙kg-1.

RESUMO

The source, vertical distribution and migration behavior of plutonium in five soil profiles (from forest, grassland and desert areas) in northern China were investigated. The average 240Pu/239Pu atomic ratio of 0.184 ± 0.022 observed in these samples is in good agreement with the reported value of global fallout, suggesting that the global fallout is the major source of plutonium in northern China. The 239,240Pu inventories in five soil profiles ranges from 43.3 Bq/m2 to 175 Bq/m2, lying in the reported range for global fallout in the similar latitude band. The effective convection velocity (0.04-0.16 cm/y) and effective dispersion coefficient (0.13-0.41cm2/y) of plutonium in different soil profiles derived using the CDE model varies significantly, attributed to multi-factors including location, topography, climate and soil types. The results showed that the migration of plutonium in grassland soil is significantly slow compared to other type of soil, especially desert soil.

RESUMO

The gut microbial composition of the Luchuan (LC) piglet, one of China's native breeds, has rarely been studied, especially when compared to other breeds. This study developed a porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection model in LC and Largewhite (LW) piglets, and analyzed the patterns and differences of intestinal microbial communities and metabolites in piglets of these two breeds after infection. The diarrhea score, survival time, and distribution of viral antigens in the intestine of piglets infected with PEDV differed among breeds, with the jejunal immunohistochemistry score of LW piglets being significantly higher than that of LC piglets (P < 0.001). The results of 16S rRNA sequencing showed differences in microbial diversity and community composition in the intestine of piglets with different breeds between PEDV infection piglets and the healthy controls. There were differences in the species and number of dominant phyla and dominant genera in the same intestinal segment. The relative abundance of Shigella in the jejunum of LC piglets after PEDV infection was significantly lower than that of LW piglets (P < 0.05). The key microorganisms differed in the microbiota were Streptococcus alactolyticus, Roseburia faecis, Lactobacillus iners, Streptococcus equi, and Lactobacillus mucosae (P < 0.05). The non-targeted metabolite analysis revealed that intestinal metabolites showed great differences among the different breeds related to infection. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine any links between the microbiota and metabolites. The metabolites in the intestine of different breeds related to infection were mainly involved in arginine biosynthesis, synaptic vesicle cycle, nicotinic acid and nicotinamide metabolism and mTOR signaling pathway, with significantly positive or negative correlations (P < 0.05) between the various microorganisms. This study provides a theoretical foundation for investigating the application of core microorganisms in the gut of piglets of different breeds in the digestive tracts of those infected with PEDV, and helps to tackle the antimicrobial resistance problem further.

RESUMO

The mannose-6-phosphate (M6P) biosynthetic pathway for lysosome biogenesis has been studied for decades and is considered a well-understood topic. However, whether this pathway is regulated remains an open question. In a genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout screen, we discover TMEM251 as the first regulator of the M6P modification. Deleting TMEM251 causes mistargeting of most lysosomal enzymes due to their loss of M6P modification and accumulation of numerous undigested materials. We further demonstrate that TMEM251 localizes to the Golgi and is required for the cleavage and activity of GNPT, the enzyme that catalyzes M6P modification. In zebrafish, TMEM251 deletion leads to severe developmental defects including heart edema and skeletal dysplasia, which phenocopies Mucolipidosis Type II. Our discovery provides a mechanism for the newly discovered human disease caused by TMEM251 mutations. We name TMEM251 as GNPTAB cleavage and activity factor (GCAF) and its related disease as Mucolipidosis Type V.

RESUMO

As a paradigm of exploiting electronic-structure engineering on semiconductor superlattices to develop advanced dielectric film materials with high electrical energy storage, the n*AlN/n*ScN superlattices are systematically investigated by first-principles calculations of structural stability, band structure and dielectric polarizability. Electrical energy storage density is evaluated by dielectric permittivity under a high electric field approaching the uppermost critical value determined by a superlattice band gap, which hinges on the constituent layer thickness and crystallographic orientation of superlattices. It is demonstrated that the constituent layer thickness as indicated by larger n and superlattice orientations as in (111) crystallographic plane can be effectively exploited to modify dielectric permittivity and band gap, respectively, and thus promote energy density of electric capacitors. Simultaneously increasing the thicknesses of individual constituent layers maintains adequate band gaps while slightly reducing dielectric polarizability from electronic localization of valence band-edge in ScN constituent layers. The AlN/ScN superlattices oriented in the wurtzite (111) plane acquire higher dielectric energy density due to the significant improvement in electronic band gaps. The present study renders a framework for modifying the band gap and dielectric properties to acquire high energy storage in semiconductor superlattices.

RESUMO

The demodulation method of optical fiber sensors utilized in power transformer partial discharge (PD) detection is insufficient for engineering applications. We design a distributed feedback fiber laser (DFB-FL) PD detection system with an asymmetric 3 × 3 coupler and propose an ultra-high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) demodulation scheme by eliminating the main factors that affect the traditional method using an asymmetric 3 × 3 coupler. The power transformer PD detection results reveal that the proposed scheme is free from 3 × 3 coupler asymmetry issues, with an average SNR of 38.30 dB, which is much higher than the widely used demodulation method and the piezoelectric transducer sensor. The average SNR of the system is increased by 24.2 dB with the proposed method.

RESUMO

The development of non-precious metal catalysts with excellent bifunctional activities is significant for air-metal batteries. ABO3-type perovskite oxides can improve their catalytic activity and electronic conductivity by doping transition metal elements at B sites. Here, we develop a novel Sm0.5Sr0.5Co1-xNixO3-δ (SSCN) nanofiber-structured electrocatalyst. In 0.1 M KOH electrolyte solution, Sm0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Ni0.2O3-δ (SSCN82) with the optimal Co: Ni molar ratio exhibits good electrocatalytic activity for OER/ORR, affording a low onset potential of 1.39 V, a slight Tafel slope of 123.8 mV dec-1, and a current density of 6.01 mA cm-2 at 1.8 V, and the ORR reaction process was four-electron reaction pathway. Combining the morphological characteristic of SSCN nanofibers with the synergistic effect of cobalt and nickel with a suitable molar ratio is beneficial to improving the catalytic activity of SSCN perovskite oxides. SSCN82 exhibits good bi-functional catalytic performance and electrochemical double-layer capacitance.
